Vacation Ideas for Summer Travel in New Hampshire's White Mountains

Lincoln, NH (PRWEB) July 12, 2006 -- Whether it’s hot and humid or cool and rainy, you can plan a weekend trip to New Hampshire’s White Mountains. White Mountain Attractions has put together two great weekends for families – one for soggy forecasts and one for sunny days.

Rain or Shine: Start your day at the Mt. Washington Observatory’s Weather Discovery Center in North Conway. After a lunch in one of downtown North Conway’s Main Street restaurants, take your car up Mt. Washington’s Auto Road. How bad can the “world’s worst weather” be from the comforts of your own car? If you’d rather let someone else do the driving, take a train ride on the Conway Scenic Railroad. Trains leave throughout the day from the railroad’s North Conway station.

Spend a cozy evening in any one of the Mt. Washington Valley’s country inns, convenient hotels, or condominium resorts. Before heading back home, stop at Heritage-New Hampshire, a theatrical history museum celebrating its 30th and final season this year, or spend the morning browsing North Conway’s factory outlets.

Sunny Days Are Here Again: Celebrate the return of sun with a hike up the Flume Gorge in Franconia Notch. The cool spray of its waterfalls should be respite enough from the heat, but if isn’t, check out the Lost River Gorge in North Woodstock. Wooden walkways, bridges and ladders help visitors navigate the Gorge’s boulders, underground caves, and newly reopened underground waterfall. If you’re a climber, cyclist, backpacker or paddler, spend the day exploring the White Mountains’ extensive network of climbs, rides, trails, and rivers.

Whether you prefer to pitch a tent at one of the White Mountains’ comfortable campgrounds or spend your evening relaxing in a grand hotel, you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep before heading home the next day. Before you hit the highway, spend some time relaxing in the water at the Whale’s Tale Water Park in Lincoln or in the bumper boats at Clark’s Trading Post in North Woodstock.
