Weekend Fall Getaways: Take In A Change Of Scenery As Seasons Change

NORWALK, Conn., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ — With weekend travel more popular than ever, what better way to take in the changing season and brilliant tapestry of autumn than a weekend or fall getaway to soak up the season.

Nearly 103 million people — or half of U.S. adults — take at least one weekend trip per year, according to the Travel Industry Association. A full 30 percent of Americans have taken five or more weekend trips in the last year, and 35 percent of weekend vacationers travel with their children on at least one weekend getaway.

“There’s an abundance of exciting destinations for the weekend traveler and those seeking to make a fall escape, from fall foliage cruises and scenic railroad adventures to exotic voyages to warmer climates,” said Travelers Advantage Vice President Julia Ryan.

Weekend and day trips are more popular than longer vacations — and a full 40 percent of these travelers have actually increased their day trip and weekend treks than five years ago.

Forty-two percent of weekend travelers make last-minute plans, selecting their destination two weeks prior to their trip, and about 30 percent take advantage of discounts, coupons, or special offers to plan their getaways.

According to the TIA, weekend travelers favored visiting cities and small towns followed by beaches, mountain areas, lakes, state or national parks and theme or amusement parks. With these weekend facts in mind, here are Travelers Advantage’s Top Fall Getaways:

— Sail: Consider a fall foliage cruise on the Mississippi River aboard
the Delta Queen Steamboat (rates on five-to-seven night excursions
