Safety Tips Offered for Beginners

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Great water conditions and rising temperatures are leading many Americans back to whitewater rafting holidays in 2005.

"We've seen an upsurge in business this season, especially in the western states where rivers are brimming with water," said David Brown, Executive Director of America Outdoors, the nation's leading association of outfitters and guides. "The season got off to a slow start in much of the east due to a cool spring, but with temperatures rising outfitters are seeing a spike in their reservations."

Brown offered some tips on choosing an experience for a weekend get-away or vacation.

* For safety's sake beginners should not attempt to navigate whitewater
rivers on their own. Using the professional services of a licensed
outfitter or one who is a member of a professional organization like
America Outdoors is the recommended way to enjoy whitewater for
inexperienced paddlers. While a guide may make it look easy, special
professional equipment and a significant amount of training is required
to navigate most whitewater rivers.
* Always, always wear personal floatation devices (lifejackets) on
whitewater rivers. This is standard procedure for professionally
guided trips and should also be practiced by those paddling on their
own.
* Guided trips are best for groups and families who have never been on a
trip and who are considering running rivers with rapids rated Class III
or better. Even some Class II streams may be enjoyed more fully if
they are guided since all the equipment and instruction come with the
trip price.

expectation can be found at http://www.adventurevacation.com/ .
