DETROIT, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Visitors to http://www.detroitsports.org/ can enter to win ticket five-packs to the Super Bowl XL NFL Experience at Cobo Center, or their choice of four tickets to a 2006 home game of the Detroit Lions or Detroit Tigers, or four tickets to a Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings game during the 2006-2007 NBA and NHL seasons. The random on-line contest is hosted by the Detroit Metro Sports Commission (DMSC), as the first in a series of 2006 activities in conjunction with the DMSC's 5th anniversary.

Those who enter the contest will vote on their favorite sporting event in Detroit's recent history and near future from a choice of the 35th Ryder Cup (2004) at Oakland Hills; the 2005 Major League Baseball All Star Game at Comerica Park; Super Bowl XL at Ford Field; the 2009 NCAA men's basketball Final Four scheduled for Ford Field; and the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four men's ice hockey championship at Ford Field. The contest will be open from 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, through 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006.

"We wanted to give local fans who visit http://www.detroitsports.org/ a chance to win great sports-themed prizes and help us celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Detroit Metro Sports Commission," said Dave Beachnau, executive director of the DMSC. "We are extremely proud of our five years in existence and the valuable partnerships with the leadership of the local sports event community that have served to attract major events that generate economic impact."

The list of recent and future sporting events in the Detroit area includes the 35th Ryder Cup; the 2003 and 2008 AAU Junior Olympic Games; the 2005 Major League Baseball All Star Game; NFL Super Bowl XL; the 2007 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships; the 2008 U.S. Bowling Congress Women's Championship; the 2009 NCAA men's basketball Final Four and the 2010 NCAA Frozen Four men's ice hockey championship.

The Detroit Metro Sports Commission is a subsidiary of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau that was formed in 2001 to bring regional, national and international amateur sporting events to metro Detroit.
