- ‘Winemaking 101′ at Sedona’s Famed Hideaway –

SEDONA, Ariz., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ — L’Auberge de Sedona welcomes wine lovers of all levels to participate in a new “Winemaker’s Discovery” program, developed in partnership with Sedona’s Page Springs Vineyards and Cellars. This weekly program aims to sharpen the skills of wine lovers on the journey to becoming discerning connoisseurs with intensive hands-on instruction and tasting experiences.

The new L’Auberge Winemakers Discovery package provides guests with luxury accommodations, an educational tour of a local winery including a wine tasting, an evening of personal instruction from L’Auberge’s wine director, a private tour of L’Auberge de Sedona’s wine cellar, a five-course tasting dinner at L’Auberge Restaurant with wine parings, nightly turndown treats and a select bottle of Page Springs wine. Midweek packages include winery tour, and complimentary “Tastings on the Terrace,” a weekly wine reception at Terrace on the Creek.

The two-night package is available weekends or midweek (see schedule) starting at $599 per person, based on double occupancy in Lodge accommodations. Single occupancy for the package starts at $799. Extra nights may be added for an additional charge. Roundtrip transfers to and from the winery are included.

Winemakers Discovery allows guests to experience the inner-workings of a winery, uncovering key differences among grape varieties and the art of pairing wines with fine foods. The journey begins with discussions about harvesting select grapes in season, blending wines for optimal quality and taste, and finishes with the craft of winemaking and bottling. For a memorable finale, participants will work with L’Auberge’s wine director and executive chef to hand-pick the wine selections to be served with the evening’s tasting menu. Guests also receive a collectors’ edition menu with their wine selections signed by L’Auberge wine director.

Arizona wines have been gaining popularity since the first experimental vineyard was established here in 1973. Home to 24 vineyards and wineries, Arizona boasts many microclimate zones with warm sunny days and cool nights, ideal conditions for growing grapes. Climate and soil studies reveal this region to be similar to Ribera Del Duero, Spain; Southeastern Australia; the South of France and Paso Robles, California.

Page Springs Vineyards & Cellars ( http://www.pagespringscellars.com/ ), based in Central Arizona’s Verde Valley, has developed a system to create largely hand-managed vineyards on a small scale, allowing growers to enjoy the pleasures of producing their own grapes and wine. Highlighting wines from the Southern Rhone, Page Springs Vineyards and Cellars works primarily with Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Mourvedre, but also samples other red grapes such as Cabernet Pfeffer and, Carignan. Their preferred white grapes include Viognier, Rousanne and Marsanne. While they occasionally blend Cabernet Franc, Barbara or Sangiovese — the flavorful grapes of the Rhone remain their key focus.

L’Auberge de Sedona ( http://www.lauberge.com/ ) — Located in the heart of Sedona’s romantic Red Rock Country, 28 miles south of Flagstaff and 90 minutes from Phoenix, L’Auberge de Sedona is nestled amid a creek-side canyon setting. The property’s 33 secluded cottages, award-winning restaurant and 21-room Lodge make for a memorable getaway with panoramic views of the famous Red Rocks.
