Wines of Germany Presents the First-Ever Riesling Week
Seven Days, Fifty Restaurants, Four Cities - One Unparalleled Wining and Dining Experience
NEW YORK, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The first-ever Riesling Week, a seven-day food and wine event designed to showcase the quality and versatility of German Riesling, hits restaurants coast-to-coast September 12th-18th. For one week only, restaurant-goers can experience a variety of German Rieslings with special by-the-glass and other promotional offerings during this first-of-its kind tasting opportunity.
Over fifty top restaurants in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Chicago have signed on to participate in this national celebration of German Riesling. Promotions will vary around the country, including special food and wine pairings, tasting menus, flights, by-the-glass selections and price discounts.
"Riesling Week offers a great opportunity for first-time consumers to experiment with wine and food pairings and gives those who already love German Riesling the opportunity to enjoy more of their favorite wines at top restaurants in their city," said Armin Goring, Deutsches Weininstitut (DWI) Director. "German Riesling is one of the most food friendly wines available, with its extraordinary range from dry to sweet, making it the ideal match for all diners."
The growing "ABC" or "Anything But Chardonnay" trend among wine drinkers has caused many consumers to look for more variety in their white wine choices. With the breadth of styles that Riesling has to offer, and with Germany as its greatest country of origin producing 70% of all Riesling wines worldwide, German Rieslings are the ideal white grape for consumers looking for something different. In fact, Riesling is currently the second fastest- growing white varietal in the U.S., showing a 13.3% increase in supermarket sales in 2003. This current marketplace enthusiasm makes it an optimal time to highlight the incredible versatility of German Rieslings in U.S. restaurants.
As part of Riesling Week, Wines of Germany will also host two "Riesling Renaissance" Grand Tastings in New York and San Francisco. Each tasting will feature over 100 German wines, representing eight regions and thirty different German wine producers.
The events, which take place on September 13th at Thalassa in New York and on September 15th at Ana Mandara in San Francisco, will be open to the public from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a $25 dollar ticket available for purchase at the door. There will a trade tasting, by invitation only, open from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in each city. Attendees will have the chance to meet top German producers and experience Germany's world-class Rieslings and other varietals.
