Hawaii has got to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, and from golden shorelines to crystal blue waters, it’s a luxury destination for holidaymakers everywhere.
When it comes to visiting Hawaii, and the island of Oahu in particular, the tourist season falls between December and February, and the average temperature is a blistering 80 degrees Fahrenheit! This makes Oahu a tropical paradise of heavenly proportions, and it’s no wonder millions of people travel here every year to experience the amazing culture, exquisite food and stunning wildlife.
Sadly, Oahu isn’t the cheapest holiday destination, and unless you’re living the lifestyle of the rich and famous, you could find your cash drying up pretty quickly. Thankfully however, there are a number of amazing activities to experience on the island that won’t leave you penniless.
Oahu is the perfect environment to undertake healthy activities throughout the entire year, and from volcanic craters to lush green forests, there are some great places to stretch your legs and explore! Let’s take a look at some of the cheapest and most entertaining things to do in Oahu.
Hiking is an amazing activity to try out on the island of Oahu, and there’s no doubt you’ll build up one hell of a sweat! The most popular spot to hike is on the South-eastern coast, called Diamond Head, and it’s a two mile trail that’s mostly paved to encourage tourists to explore the landscape.
Although the hike is moderately difficult, the views are absolutely unreal, and it takes you all the way to the west of the island. If you’re looking for something a little less popular however, then why not try out the Olomana trail?
Located near Kaiula, this hike is of an intermediate level, and consists of three peaks. At a mile longer than the Diamond Head trail, Olomana becomes very steep near the tops of the peaks, but once you’re there, you’ll realise it was well worth the effort.
Snorkeling is another great (and cheap) activity to try out when you’re visiting the island of Oahu. Hanauma Bay is one of the most popular diving areas, and it can be found just east of Honolulu – admission is only $7.50! This price includes a mandatory educational film that explores the marine wildlife around Hanauma Bay, from sharks and sea snakes to tropical fish and exotic turtles.
If you’re looking for something a little less commercialized, however, there are many more small, independent snorkeling businesses that will happily take you around Electric Beach, a less well known shoreline. Benefiting from deep, crystal-clear water, you’ll be able to see the amazing marine life just metres below your feet!
This is one of the best places to experience in Oahu, not least because it’s free. The farmers markets on the island are full of culture, food, spices and materials, and because everything is caught, cooked and made locally, you’ll be paying rock bottom prices for the finest goods on in Hawaii!
On top of all these great and cheap things to do in Oahu, here is a tip for getting to Hawaii cheaply as well. It will search various airlines for pricing on tickets to Hawaii, and tell you which is the cheapest, saving you lots of money.
