Zagat Survey Partners With Barbados Tourism Authority to Offer First and Only Zagat Guide to a Caribbean Island

NEW YORK, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Zagat Survey, the world's leading provider of consumer survey-based leisure content, today released its 2007 Best of Barbados guide, the first and only Zagat guide to a Caribbean island. Based on the opinions and expertise of nearly 1,500 natives and frequent visitors, this new guide contains ratings and reviews for 169 top restaurants, bars, nightclubs, attractions and golf courses across the Island.

"Barbados is a breathtaking island and one of the best places in the world to kick back and relax, but it's also full of top notch restaurants, exciting nightclubs, and world class golf courses," said Tim Zagat, CEO of Zagat Survey. "To find the best the island has to offer, what better resource could one ask for than a guide written by nearly 1,500 aficionados who know the area best?"

BARBADOS RESTAURANTS

Surveyors call it "simply the best" so it should be no surprise that the "flawless" "out-of-this-world" Eclectic fare at The Cliff should take both Top Food and Most Popular honors (and the number two spot for Service). Coming in second for both Food and Most Popular is the "fantastic" and "enchanting" Champers Wine Bar. Rounding out the top three is "top-notch" and "stunningly beautiful" Restaurant at Southsea for Top Food (as well as first place honors for Top Service and second place for Top Decor). The "sensational" "imaginatively presented" fare at "romantic" The Tides runs third for Most Popular.

Shifting Sands: The new Survey confirms that the top restaurants are no longer limited to the West Coast. In fact, of the Survey's Top Five for Food, three -- Cafe Luna, Champers and the Restaurant at Southsea -- are on the South Coast, as are five of the top ten Most Popular eateries: Bubba's, Josef's, Pisces, Champers and the Restaurant at Southsea.

Favorite Foods: When it comes to favorite cuisines, one choice stands clear above the rest -- home grown, Caribbean style cooking. With 27% of the vote, Caribbean cooking far exceeds the second place contender, Italian, which gathers just 19%. French comes third with 12% of the vote.

BARBADOS NIGHTLIFE

For those excited about heading out after dark, Barbados has plenty to offer. At the top of the Most Popular list (and third for Appeal) is a "happening" place called Harbour Lights where you can put your "feet in the sand" and "party under the stars." For a "brilliant" taste of "Bajan flavour," "don't miss" the "down-home" offerings of Oistins Fish Fry, Barbados' second Most Popular nightspot, which is also number two in the Appeal category. And coming in third is McBride's Pub and Cookhouse where there's "always something different" musically and the nightclub is a "good mix of locals and tourists." At the top of the Appeal list is Bajan Roots & Rhythm, where "fire eaters, stilt walkers, and showgirls" present the island's "most spectacular show."

BARBADOS ATTRACTIONS

Seizing the top slot for Popularity is the "tranquil" "underground wonderland" Harrison's Cave, known for its "stunning" stalagmites and stalactites and other "awesome" formations. Taking second place in the Popularity category is "exciting" Barbados Wildlife Reserve, home to "close-up" experiences with a slew of "freely roaming" animals including the "much-touted" green monkeys. And closing out the top three Most Popular is also the number one in Top Appeal, Island Safari, known for its "exhilarating" yet "educational" excursions. Second in Appeal is the "Rolls-Royce of catamaran excursions" Cool Runnings Catamaran Cruises, followed close behind by its "very attentive" and "warm-hearted" competitor El Tigre Catamaran Cruises.

BARBADOS GOLF

The 2007 Best of Barbados guide also includes a half dozen of the Island's most "attractive" and "fun-to-play" golf courses, from the "best on the Island" Royal Westmoreland to the oldest, "modest" nine-holes at Rockley Golf Course. Golf courses are rated for the quality of the course, the facilities, service and value.

Like all Zagat Survey guidebooks, the 2007 Best of Barbados guide is made by consumers for consumers. The guide was edited by David Downing and Pat Hoyos, and is available through the Barbados Tourism Authority at 800-221-9831 or http://www.visitbarbados.org/.
