Greyhound Elevating Experience for Chicago Customers

Refurbished buses, renovated stations and new uniforms part of pilot program to enhance the travel experience

CHICAGO, June 27 /PRNewswire/ — Greyhound Lines, Inc., North America’s largest provider of intercity bus transportation, today announced that it is rolling out refurbished buses, updating bus stations and uniforms, and airing a new ad campaign to reflect the new Greyhound, with the tagline: “We’ve Elevated Everything.” The changes are part of a three-city pilot program designed to enhance the travel experience for thousands of loyal Greyhound riders, as well as to attract new customers.

The pilot program begins today in Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis. In each market, Greyhound is improving the customer experience at numerous touch points, while implementing changes to make travel more enjoyable. The company also is introducing a new food-to-go concept, called Quickstop, a new Traveling Kids Club, as well as a new greeter position to answer questions and assist customers with their travel needs.

“Our customers have told us that the most important thing to them is an enjoyable travel experience,” said Steve Gorman, president and CEO, Greyhound Lines, Inc. “From refurbished buses and updated terminals to a new attitude among our employees, we’re creating a new Greyhound. In other words, we’re elevating everything we do to ensure that we meet our customers’ expectations.”

In the refurbished buses, customers will notice new more comfortable seating featuring the “running” Greyhound dog icon. The seats feature movable armrests and automatic footrests, as well as new elastic straps across the seat backs to hold reading materials. The exterior of the buses features a contemporary livery that showcases the 91-year-old Greyhound dog running along each side and on the roof. The word “Greyhound” appears behind the dog, which is made of reflective material so it can be seen at night.

All employees have been outfitted with new uniforms to ensure Greyhound personnel are easily identifiable. In addition to new uniforms, employees received training on enhancing customer service, focusing on four key areas: courtesy, appearance, respect and excellence (CARE).

As part of its commitment to elevating lives in the Chicago area, Greyhound also announced a new partnership with Umoja, a non-profit organization that provides academic, social, college and career support to underprivileged youth.

“Our commitment is to elevate everything we do, and that includes giving back to the community,” said Jim Norris, Chicago city manager, Greyhound. “Umoja serves more than 1,000 young people annually, and we are proud to be able to invest in their programs, as well as provide employee volunteer support to their heroic efforts.”

The new “We’ve elevated everything” advertising campaign will launch with a new TV commercial that showcases the new refurbished bus design as it travels through various locales across the country. The unique way that Greyhound has “elevated” the travel experience will be emphasized. The TV spot runs June 27 through the end of August on major network affiliates. The campaign also will run in elevated outdoor billboards and in print ads in publications, including the Chicago Reader.

The campaign features new radio spots with well-known comedienne Wanda Sykes. Greyhound also tapped Hispanic comedian Adal Ramones, for Spanish-language radio ads. Continuing in the catchy, irreverent style of previous Greyhound spots, Wanda and Adal offer musings on topics such as fashion makeovers and scary movies as they tout the “new” changes happening at Greyhound.

“Everything we do ties back to the Greyhound brand, which has long been associated with safe and affordable bus travel,” said Gorman. “With the new Greyhound, we will still be the iconic brand of more than 90 years, but it will represent enjoyable travel as well. That is what we plan to accomplish with this program.”
