Snowmass Village, Colorado Announces Music Line-Up for First Summer Festival

The Chili Pepper & Brew Fest June 9-11

Snowmass Village, CO, promises to heat up the mountains with three days dedicated to hot music, hotter chili, and plenty of microbrews to keep the temperatures from reaching scorcing. Chili and microbrew tastings and competitions and the music of Jonny Lang, Medeski, Martin & Wood, and others promise a sizzling start to summer in the mountains.

Snowmass Village, CO (PRWEB) April 2, 2006 — Snowmass Village is pleased to announce a sizzling line-up of music for the 3rd Annual Chili Pepper & Brew Fest June 9-11, 2006, that includes popular improv jazz group Medeski, Martin & Wood and wunderkind rock star Jonny Lang in his first Colorado appearance of the summer. The Chili Pepper & Brew Fest is a popular Colorado festival that combines the three fiery components of music, microbrews, and chili into one smokin’ weekend, all set amidst the magnificent Elk mountains of Colorado.

“Considering it’s only the third year, this is a spectacular line-up of music, food & fermentation,” says Snowmass Village Marketing Director Susan Hamley. “It’s been a remarkably successful early season event that keeps getting better, and the music this year transcends a broad spectrum of tastes and demographics.”

Medeski, Martin & Wood heats up the night on Friday, June 9. This popular group effortlessly straddles the gap between avant-garde improvisation and accessible groove-based jazz. The Wood Brothers, who open for Medeski, Martin & Wood, features MMW member Chris Wood and his brother Oliver, who combine their divergent music styles to create a rootsy Americana feel that blends blues, folk, and rock music. This is a rare opportunity to catch this up-and-coming guitar/bass duo in concert.

Phenom Jonny Lang headlines Saturday night. His vocal career began at age 13 and by 19 he’d garnered a Grammy nomination and two platinum albums. Twenty-two-year-old Lang’s long-awaited new album will be released this fall, and Snowmass will be the first Colorado venue where fans can hear Lang’s passionate new rock & soul music live in concert.

Opening for Lang is Trevor Hall, a talented young singer/songwriter who masterfully weaves folk, hip-hop, and reggae influences into a rootsy acoustic-centered style. Sean Costello, another up-and-coming musician performs Saturday afternoon promising a remarkably mature grasp of Chicago blues shaped by soul, rock, funk, jazz and gospel influences. On Sunday, local six-piece band Waste Deep performs improvisational solos and funky beats.

“From Leftover Salmon in year one to Keller Williams and Michael Franti & Spearhead last year to this level of performers in 2006 shows an amazing progression of talent and a true dedication to bringing spectacular music to Snowmass for a reasonable price,” says Event Director Josh Behrman.

Music, of course, is just one element of the Chili Pepper & Brew Fest’s unique collaboration of the senses. International Chili Society chili tastings for festival-goers and sanctioned district-level competitions to help qualify cooks for the world championships take place on Friday and Saturday. Over 40 elite microbrews vie both for the professionally-judged title of Best Summer Ale and for the palates of festival attendees with samplings on Friday and a grand tasting on Saturday. On Sunday amateurs get their chance to shine in the People’s Choice Chili Competition and the new Locals’ Home Brew competition. Visitors also can take advantage of all the outdoor adventures in and around Snowmass ranging from hiking and biking to jeep tours, golf, shopping, dining, and more.

The best part of the Chili Pepper & Brew Fest is the cost: tickets are only $15 per day and include access to the outdoor concerts and food concessionaires. For only $10 more, a $25/day party pass allows unlimited access to the microbrew tastings and to sampling different types of chili each day. A wide variety of affordable lodging options are available as well. Tickets are on sale now online. For a schedule, tickets, and details, call 1-800-SNOWMASS or visit
