SunFest Announces Headline Entertainment for 2006 Festival

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 2 /PRNewswire/ — Ashlee Simpson, Carrie Underwood, Duncan Sheik, Fiona Apple, Jason Mraz, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Omarion, Teddy Geiger, and Train are among the national acts scheduled to perform at this year’s SunFest. Additional entertainers will be announced as they are confirmed.

SunFest, Florida’s largest music, art and waterfront festival, will be held May 4-7 along the Flagler Drive waterfront section of West Palm Beach. Reserved seating for the concerts will go on sale April 7.

“SunFest is the ultimate Florida experience for residents and visitors,” said Paul Jamieson, executive director of SunFest. “It’s a Florida holiday that is a must-attend event the first weekend in May. We plan to put on a great show and everyone is invited.”

Scheduled to perform on the Washington Mutual Stage:

Carrie Underwood will perform on Thursday night, May 4. Underwood, the 2005 American Idol winner and an Oklahoma native, broke Billboard chart history as the first country music artist ever to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Underwood is best known for “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Some Hearts.”

Omarion will perform on Saturday afternoon, May 6. After making his mark as the lead singer of R&B’s multi-platinum quartet B2k, Omarion launched a solo debut, “O”, which includes title track “O”, “Never Gonna Let You Go (She’s a Keepa),” “I Wish,” and “I’m Gonna Change.” A multidimensional performer, Omarion is also known for his acting roles on The Bernie Mac Show and the blockbuster film You Got Served, as well as credits as an author.

Pop singer/songwriter Fiona Apple will perform Saturday night, May 6. Apple recently released her first album in six years, “Extraordinary Machine.” This album is a follow-up to 1999′s platinum-selling “When the Pawn…” known for “Better Version of Me,” “Not About Love,” “Oh Sailor” along with her well- known hits “Criminal” and “Shadowboxer,” from her album “Tidal.”

The San Francisco sensation Train will perform on Sunday afternoon, May 7. They are well known for their chart-topping hits “Free,” “Meet Virginia,” “I Am,” “Drops Of Jupiter,” “Something More,” “She’s On Fire,” “Calling All Angels,” “Ordinary,” “When I Look To The Sky,” and “Get To Me.”

Classic Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd will perform on Saturday night, May 6. Known as one of the hardest-working bands in history, some of their most enduring songs include “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Saturday Night Special,” and “Free Bird.”

Scheduled to perform on The Real Yellow Pages (R) Stage:

Fefe Dobson performs on Thursday evening, May 4. Her recent single is “Don’t Let It Go to Your Head” from her upcoming “Sunday Love” album. Her first album featured the popular hit single “Take Me Away.”

DJ Maj will perform on Saturday afternoon, May 6. DJ Maj is known for dance-worthy hip-hop jams with a Christian theme including the title track from his current album, “BoogiRoot (The Anthem).”

Plumb will perform Saturday afternoon, May 6. “Chaotic Resolve” is her fourth album released. She launched her solo debut with “Beautiful Lumps of Coal” which included hits “Sink n’ Swim” and “Boys Don’t Cry.” Plumb has written songs with and for other artists, including Michelle Branch and Mandy Moore. Her music has been included in films such as Bruce Almighty, Just Married, The Story of Us, Loser, View from the Top, Drive Me Crazy and The Perfect Man.

Scheduled to perform on the Festival’s South Stage:

Pop music, critically-acclaimed balladeer Duncan Sheik will perform Friday evening, May 5. Sheik recently released a new album “White Limousine.” Nominated for a Grammy in 1997, his outrageously popular “Barely Breathing” was the fourth longest-running single in Billboard history.

Family Stone Experience will perform Thursday evening, May 4. The funk group recently appeared at the Grammy Awards and features two founding members of Sly and the Family Stone, Greg Errico and Jerry Martini. Members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Sly and the Family Stone’s hits include “I Want To Take You Higher,” “Everyday People,” “Dance to the Music,” “Hot Fun In the Summertime,” “Family Affair” and “Sing a Simple Song.”

Ashlee Simpson will perform Saturday night, May 6. Hits off her most recent album include title track “I Am Me,” “L.O.V.E,” and “Boyfriend.” Her previous albums include “Pieces of Me” and “Autobiography.”

Teddy Geiger will perform on Sunday afternoon, May 7. The up-and-coming singer/songwriter is a self-taught musician who wrote and arranged complete compositions on guitar and piano by age eight. Geiger was a Finalist on VH1′s “In Search of the New Partridge Family” and released his debut album “Underage Thinking” which includes the single “For You I Will (Confidence).”

Pop star and singer/songwriter Jason Mraz will perform on Sunday afternoon, May 7. His album “Mr. A-Z” features popular singles “Wordplay” and “Geek in Pink.” His first album “Waiting for My Rocket to Come” has gone platinum. That album included chart-topping singles “Remedy” and “Curbside Prophet.”

100 Free Downloads with advance ticket purchase

The purchase of a SunFest 2006 ticket includes 100 free songs from, one of the Web’s largest digital music services. has a catalog of more than 500,000 tracks to choose from, a list that includes established and emerging artists. Advance discount tickets for SunFest 2006 (May 4-7) are on sale at the SunFest store located at 525 Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach, online at and by phone (561) 659-5980 or 1-800-SUNFEST. Advance tickets will also be available at participating Publix Super Markets and Washington Mutual Financial Centers on March 18. Prices for advance tickets are $17 for one day and $35 for a four-day pass. Tickets at the gate will be $20 for one day and $40 for a four-day ticket. Seniors 65 and older pay $12 at the gate for one day ticket, and children 12 and under are admitted free with an adult, courtesy of Florida Power & Light.
